Meet the artist: Jesse Woodworth
Hello! My name is Jesse Woodworth and I have been a potter for the past 10 years. My interest in ceramics began in college when I took my first ceramics class and have been hooked ever since. Although originally from Goshen, Indiana, I currently live in Denver, Colorado and work full time as a social worker for Denver Public Schools. In my spare time, I work as many hours as I can in the studio and staff a few hours at the Artists on Santa Fe gallery where I also show and sell my work.
I enjoy throwing on the wheel, and designing functional pieces used in dining. I frequently use techniques like slip-casting which allows me to redefine which shapes and designs constitute functional ceramics and decal work in which I can print various images onto my work using a printer and a high temperature firing. I enjoy working with a variety of up-cycled multi-media objects such as bike brakes, aluminum cans, adjustable vents, pipe fittings, nuts and wrenches to create unique functional ceramic ware. My recent work has focused on the combination of decal work and mixed media like one of my favorite items, the Bike Brake Handle Mug.
Otherwise, my hobbies include spending time in the great outdoors; hiking, camping, skiing, biking, and fishing. I play soccer for the local soccer team FC Denver Premier and I enjoy world travel, especially to Latin America.
